Barbara Ray Shelton, 81, of Fredericksburg passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Carriage Hill Health & Rehab Center.

Ms. Shelton was a native of the Boston, MA area and had lived in Fredericksburg for 68 years. She had retired from patients accounts at Mary Washington Hospital after 26 years of service. Throughout her life, Barbara satisfied her zest for life with her many travels with family and special friend Charlie, but her most cherished moments were spent with her children and grandchildren and their many activities.

Survivors include her sons, Gordon W. Shelton III and his wife, Kay of Chesapeake and Michael Neal Shelton and his wife, Ruth of Nags Head, N.C.; daughter, Kathryn Burner and her husband, Hollis "Eddie" of Spotsylvania; her special friend, Charles Davis of Fredericksburg; brothers, Henry G. Ray Jr., and his wife, Helen of Sun City West, AZ, Richard Ray and his wife, Gloria of Blackshear, GA and E. Paul Ray and his wife, Carolyn of Apple Valley, CA; aunts; Regina Neal and Mona McInerney both of Birleria, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Andrea, Gordon IV, Chrissie, Brittany, Michael and Katelyn; and five great grandchildren, Emma, Aly, Clay, Presley and Isabella.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bobby" Ray.

A service will be held 2 pm Monday, August 2 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg with the Rev. Pamela G. Meeuwissen officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Mary Washington Hospice 5012 Southpoint Parkway Fredericksburg, VA 22407. The family would like to thank Barbara's caregivers for her care throughout her stay at Carriage Hill.
