Karen Lynn Flippo Johnson, 60 of Fredericksburg, passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at her Fredericksburg home.
Karen was the daughter of James and Kathryn Flippo of Fredericksburg and was a lifelong resident of Fredericksburg. She graduated from James Monroe High School and attended Germania Community College where she was enrolled in their nursing program. Karen founded the Fredericksburg chapter of "Operation Blessing" and ran it out of her home in Ferry Farms for years.
She also was a member of the Fredericksburg Baptist Church where she served in the Bus Ministry and the nursery. Karen became a spirit filled Christian in 1974 and lived the spirit filled life from then on. She was a woman of great faith and she would share her love of Jesus with anyone who would listen. Karen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family meant everything to her and she always made it a point to be there for anyone in need.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, James J. Flippo Sr.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, L. Phillip Johnson; her mother, Kathryn Mabe and her step-father, William Mabe; her daughter, Shannon J. Mastin and her husband, Russell; her sons, Jason P. Johnson, Joseph L. Johnson and Jefferson F.W. Johnson; her six beloved grandchildren, Elijah Mastin, Jacob Mastin, Samuel Mastin, K. Elizabeth Mastin, Daniel Mastin and Haley P. Johnson; her brother, James J. Flippo, Jr.; her step-sister, Gayle Mabe; several nieces and nephews and many beloved family and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 29 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel with the Rev. Jack A. Marcom, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Falmouth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28 at the funeral home.
