Nancy Guirkin Groves, 68, of Stafford County, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at her residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Groves attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church and had been a member of Centreville United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong school teacher, most recently at Rippon Middle School. Nancy was named the William C. Lowry Outstanding Mathematics Teacher of the Year and nominated for the Agnes P. Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award.
Survivors include her mother, Ruth B. Truman; her step-father, Richard L. Truman; her son, Russell Groves and his wife, Morven; her daughter, Shelley Groves Rakip and her husband, Mark; her sister, Janet Roley and her husband, Jerry; and two grandchildren, Callum Groves and Ila Rakip.
A funeral service will be held at 11am, Saturday, October 31 at Dulin United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dave Kirkland and the Rev. William Braswell officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Lincoln Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Friday, October 30 at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Rd, Stafford.
