Katherine Garrison Liebenow, 85, of Chancellor’s Village died Monday, October 26, 2009 at Mary Washington Hospital.

A native of Fredericksburg, she is survived by her husband of 65 years, Franklin E. “Pilly” Liebenow of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Franklin E. Liebenow, Jr. and his wife, Carolyn and Dan E. Liebenow and his wife, Karen all of Spotsylvania County. In addition she is survived by her brother, Jack S. Garrison of Virginia Beach and a number of nieces and nephews. Katherine was preceded in death by her uncle and paternal aunt, Charles E. and Blanche G. Wright who raised her. She was also preceded by her biological parents, Ernest V. and Lennie Garrison and a brother, William E. Garrison.

Born January 24, 1924, Katherine attended city schools and graduated from James Monroe High School in 1940 before attending Mary Washington College. She and Pilly were married at the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church on May 30, 1944.

Katherine lived in Fredericksburg until moving to Stafford County in 1972 where she made her home for 34 years. She had resided at Chancellor’s Village for the past three years.

Katherine assisted her husband in the operation of their business, Liebenow’s Hardware, which was located on Sophia Street in the city. She also taught piano lessons for a number of years, and was a real estate agent with Town and Country Properties.

Katherine served on the board of Hospice Support Care and, at the time of her death was a member of Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, its Faith Circle, as well as the Red Hat Society.

A funeral will be held at 11 am Thursday, October 29, at Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Allen H. Fisher, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church parlor.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church, 810 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
